Imphal, Sept 20:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assumed control of the investigation into a drone attack that resulted in the death of a woman and injured 11 others in the Imphal West district of Manipur. The attack occurred on September 1 at Koutruk village.
Reports indicate that the NIA has formally requested the Manipur police department to transfer all relevant documents and evidence associated with the case. This move comes in response to concerns regarding the state government’s handling of the investigation, emphasizing the need for a thorough inquiry into the involvement of alleged armed miscreants.
In conjunction with taking over the case, the NIA has filed an application with the Special Court of NIA, seeking a directive for the Manipur police department to surrender related documents, case diaries, and seized materials as required under various legal provisions.
Notably, following the drone bomb attacks, security forces recovered a drone from Kharam Vaiphei village in Kangpokpi district, further highlighting the ongoing security concerns in the region. The NIA’s involvement aims to ensure a comprehensive investigation into the incident and its broader implications for safety in Manipur.
