Nearly Rs. 75,000 claim by Information Commissioner for framed portrait and two name plates turned down by MIC: Sources

A reimbursement claim of nearly Rs. 75,000 submitted by Nungshitombi Athokpam, Information Commissioner of the Manipur Information Commission (MIC), for the purchase of a framed portrait and two name plates has reportedly not been approved by the Commission, sources said.
According to sources, the claim was submitted for the purchase of a framed portrait of Mahatma Gandhi, a name plate bearing the commissioner’s name and designation, and another name plate for an official vehicle displaying the designation of State Information Commissioner.
Sources stated that the reimbursement request drew attention within the Manipur Information Commission after the amount claimed appeared unusually high for the items listed. The matter was subsequently placed before the competent authority of the Commission for examination.
Following scrutiny, the competent authority reportedly did not approve the reimbursement claim, sources added.
Nungshitombi Athokpam was appointed as Information Commissioner on November 14, 2025.
