NE students protest in front of UP House demanding probe on the mysterious death of Manipuri Youth at Noida

Imphal, Spet 21: Mysterious death of Pravish Chanam at Noida had brought 100s of north East students in front of UP House at Chanakyapuri New Delhi today afternoon. The protest organised jointly by the Manipur Students’ Association Delhi (MASAD), Delhi Association of Manipur Muslim Students (DAMMS) and North East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) demanding probe against the mysterious death of Pravish Chanam at Noida.
22 years old Pravish Chanam was gone missing from a concert in Greater Noida on September 8. His body was found the next day in Noida’s Nithari area which is around 40 Km from the concert spot.
The deceased reportedly came to Delhi from Hyderabad on September 7 to attend the concert in Greater Noida, and had stayed at a friend’s house in Delhi’s Safdarjung Enclave. Chanam’s relatives said his friends lost him in the crowd at the concert.
After the death, there were reports that the police cremated Chanam on September 13 without contacting his relatives. His relatives claimed that the police took the action despite Chanam’s brother filing a missing persons complaint on September 9. After an internal inquiry, three officials, including two sub-inspectors, were suspended on September 14.
Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh had written to Chief Minister of UP to investigate over the death and had also ordered to send a senior police officer to the National Capital Region to help the Uttar Pradesh Police investigate the death.
The large number of students gathered in front of UP house at New Delhi shouted slogan demanding justice for Pravish Chanam.  Placards and banners were also used during the protest. As per report reaching here students from JNU also showed solidarity to the protest.
