NDMA Central team inspects disaster preparedness in Chandel

A Central Team of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), led by Director Rakesh Kataria, visited Chandel district to inspect and review the district’s disaster preparedness and management activities. The team, accompanied by the District Commissioner and District Level Officers (DLOs), held a review meeting to assess ongoing initiatives and later visited several locations across the district for on-ground inspection.
Rakesh Kataria speaking to mediapersons on the sideline of the programme stated that the team had been deputed under the direction of the Ministry of Home Affairs to evaluate the functioning of disaster management authorities at both state and district levels. He said the objective of the visit was to examine how authorities are preparing for and mitigating disaster risks, as well as to understand the response mechanisms in place should a disaster occur. He also mentioned that the team aimed to listen to the concerns of local authorities and understand their expectations from both the Central Government and the State Disaster Management Authority.
He further noted that the NDMA team is assessing the level of coordination among various line departments and reviewing the functioning of emergency operations centres to ensure effective disaster response systems are in place.
The review meeting held at the Mini Secretariat Conference Hall of the DC Office, Chandel was attended by Chandal Singh, Under Secretary, NDMA; Dr. Sweta Baidya, Senior Consultant, NDMA; Laishram Nandakumar, Deputy Commissioner, Chandel; Md. Firoz Khan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chandel; Kajaigai Gangmei, Director, Relief and Disaster Management; Philakan Kingdang, Consultant, Relief and Disaster Management, Chandel; Md. Riyazul Haque, Coordinator, Relief and Disaster Management, Chandel; SDOs of Khengjoy and Chakpikarong, along with other District Level Officers.
