Sangli, July 10:

Dattatraya Patole, Vice President of NCP (Sangali district) in Western Maharashtra was killed in a broad day light by three unidentified assailants at an MIDC at Miraj taluka on Friday, sending shock waves throughout the district.

Patole (45), who was travelling by a mobike from Kupwad towards Sangli city, was stopped by the assailants near Rohini Cold Storage at about 1 PM and was attacked with lethal weapons. Patole tried to run away to save himself. But the assailants chased him and inflicted deep injuries with choppers and swords, due to which he collapsed on the spot. The assailants who had covered their faces, fled the scene soon after the attack.

The incident has been captured in CCTV and the police have launched a hunt to nab the culprits, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sandip Singh Gill said.

Patole was appointed as Vice President of the NCP two years back. Prima facie the murder seems to be related to financial dispute and the murder was a contract killing.
