NCB seizes methamphetamine worth Rs 43 crore in Guwahati, arrests two from Manipur

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 53.94 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at around Rs 43 crore in Guwahati and arrested two men from Manipur’s Bishnupur district for their alleged involvement in transporting the consignment from Myanmar to other parts of India.

According to official source, the seizure was made on October 6 after NCB officials intercepted two trucks acting on specific intelligence inputs.

A search of the vehicles led to the recovery of methamphetamine tablets concealed in specially fabricated cavities inside the fuel tanks of both trucks, indicating the use of modified vehicles to transport the contraband.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the consignment originated in Myanmar and was intended for onward transportation to other parts of the country. The NCB said the operation had disrupted a major drug trafficking attempt.

The agency is now investigating the wider network to identify the alleged international suppliers, domestic receivers, financiers, transporters and other individuals involved in the operation. Efforts are underway to trace the entire supply chain and dismantle the trafficking network.

In a separate operation, the NCB’s Guwahati unit arrested six absconders wanted in various cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act during its special Absconder Drive Fortnight. Of the six arrested, two are from Assam, while the others are from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura, the agency said.

The latest seizure highlights the continuing challenge of intercepting narcotics consignments allegedly originating in Myanmar and transported through regional routes.
