National Reconsolidation Month concludes with rally honouring Maharaj Gambhir Singh

The month-long observance of National Reconsolidation Month, organised by United People’s Front (UPF) Manipur, concluded today in connection with the 192nd death anniversary of Maharaj Gambhir Singh.
The observance was initiated by UPF Manipur on December 9, 2025. During the month, public discourse programmes and street-corner meetings were held at various locations across Manipur to engage with the people on issues of history, society and collective responsibility. From December 19 to 29, similar programmes were organised at fifteen locations outside the state, including Shillong and Guwahati in the Northeast, Manipur Bastis in Guwahati, Chandrapur in Cachar, Lengondabi Pat, Awa Pali, and several places in Tripura. These activities included public interactions, intellectual discussions and visits to museums. Motorcycle rallies were also organised on January 7 and 8 at different locations in the Imphal valley to reach out to the public.
On the concluding day, a major public rally was organised from Manipur College to Langthabal in Canchipur, where the memorial of Maharaj Gambhir Singh is located. Participants offered floral tributes at the memorials of Maharaj Gambhir Singh, Nara Singh and Herachandra.
The concluding programme was attended by UPF Manipur President Nongthombam Rupachandra, UCM President YK Dhiren, AMSU President Lukram Malangba, HERICOUN President Y Surjitkumar, CCSK President Jitendra Ningomba, IPSA President Maibam Bisheshwor, LIPUL President Somorendro Thokchom and Akhiu Ngaomei, Joint Secretary of Imphal Naga Forum, representing the Naga Foothills.
Addressing the gathering, Nongthombam Rupachandra said the month-long observance sought to convey the message that such devastation as witnessed in the past must never be allowed again. He said the initiative examined the present condition of Meiteis living across Manipur and the Northeast, with particular reference to their educational, political and economic situation. He added that the programme aimed at strengthening unity and guiding Manipur society towards a more organised future.
He further said that every action of Maharaj Gambhir Singh was directed towards protecting the civilisation of Manipur, and stressed that remembering the Maharaj should go beyond ceremonial tributes to upholding his vision and the Idea of Manipur.
