National Cleanliness Day was observed across Manipur today on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, with multiple institutions and district administrations organising large-scale cleanliness drives and tree plantation programmes to promote hygiene, environmental awareness, and community participation.
In Chandel, United College, Lambung, under the guidance of its Management Committee, faculty, staff, and students, conducted a social work and cleanliness drive involving around 1,000 villagers from 12 neighbouring villages, including Lambung, Lamphoupasna, Modi, Panchai, Chandel Christian, and Chengkhu. The drive, held under the theme “Non-violence and Truth in Daily Life”, aimed to foster civic responsibility and a clean environment. Ex-MLA and Convenor of the College Management Committee, St. Victor Nunghlung, emphasised strict attendance for staff and students and appealed to the community for active cooperation to ensure the college functions properly.
In Imphal, the 86 BN CRPF, Lamphelpat, organised a mass cleanliness drive at Thangmeiband Cheirao Ching and surrounding areas as part of the culmination of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign and inauguration of Special Campaign 5.0. The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers, jawans, and local residents. The programme concluded with a mass Swachhata pledge and recognition of Safai Mitras for their contributions.
District administrations also led large-scale initiatives. In Bishnupur, under Deputy Commissioner Pooja Elangbam, officials and staff carried out cleanliness drives across the Mini Secretariat Complex, offices, schools, and surrounding areas, complemented by a tree plantation programme led by forest and district officials. Similarly, Senapati district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley, IAS, conducted mass cleanliness drives at government offices, health institutions, schools, and town areas, followed by a tree plantation drive at the DC Office Complex as part of the Nation First @75 Campaign – Lifestyle for Environment (LIFE).
These coordinated efforts across Manipur highlighted a strong commitment from educational institutions, security forces, and district administrations towards hygiene, green initiatives, and fostering a sense of responsibility among citizens, aligning with the national vision of a Swachh Bharat.
