Narcotic substances worth over Rs. 550 crore seized at Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh

Combined team of Manipur police and the Assam Rifles troopers seized over Rs. 550 crore narcotic substances which were hidden in a house at Indo-Myanmar border town Moreh of Tengnoupal district yesterday evening.
“54.141 Kgs of Brown Sugar and 154.134 Kgs of Crystal Methamphetamine which may worth more than Rs. 576 crore in International Market were seized while raiding a house at Moreh Ward No. 3”, a police source told reporters.
The said house was raided by the combined team of Tengnoupal district police and the 43 Assam Rifles after a Myanmar national identified as Monkai, revealed the warehouse of the narcotic substances during interrogation. The arrested person – Monkai, is reported to be the son of one Thangmang of Khampat Village in Myanmar. Police still is not revealing on how the Myanmar national managed to keep such huge quantity of narcotics substances at a house inside Indian Territory. However, the police team are reportedly investigating over the matter.
According to the police source Monkai was arrested at around 2:30 pm yesterday from inside the Indian Territory.
The seizure of the huge narcotic substances yesterday evening is perhaps one of the big cases for Drug Apprehension in India. And it will be the top in Northeastern State.
Superintendent of Police, Tengnoupal District, Th. Vikramjit Singh, while talking to media persons said that the seizure of Narcotics Substance was done to make Manipur a drug-free State.
“Assam Rifles and Tengnoupal District Police and Commando are waiting for the opportunity since the last couple of days of surveillance to some suspected houses in Indian side along Indo-Myanmar Border’, the district police SP Vikramjit said.
It may be mentioned that last year on the same day, 43 Assam Rifles and Tengnoupal District Police had seized Rs. 165 Crore worth Narcotics Substances.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh had appreciated the security team which had seized a huge catch of drugs from Moreh. In his facebook post the Chief Minister wrote – “Marvellous achievement by Tengnoupal Police and 43 Assam Rifles on seizing huge quantity of illegal narcotics substances worth Rs 500 Crore from a specific warehouse in Moreh”.
