Mysterious death of MBBS Student at RIMS boys hostel triggered protest; demands judicial probe

The death of an MBBS student allegedly by hanging himself inside his hostel room has triggered protest from the locality of the victim. A JAC in connection with the suspicious death has been formed and under the demand of Justice for Sanaton Athokpam, the JAC submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister to investigate the mysterious death whom the authority claimed to be an act of suicide.
The deceased Sanaton Athokpam, 22, son of Tikendra of Khurai Thangjam Leikai, is pursuing MBBS fifth Semester at RIMS and has been staying at the boys hostel of the Institute. He was found hang to death in a suspicious manner in his hostel room on March 15 at around 130 pm.
After the memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister in connection with the mysterious death, base on the agreement post mortem of the decease has been conducted at JNIMS in the presence of a magistrate as well as with video coverage.
The JAC also demanded judicial inquiry of the cause of the death.
According to the initial report, the deceased was hanging in his room with his hands tied behind his back. There were also marks on the body which suggest a struggle and potential strangulation, the police said.
Sanaton, was found hanging at his hostel room ceiling fan at around 1:30 pm when four of his friends broke open the door after noticing that he did not come out of his room and was not responding to their calls.
Sanaton was rushed to RIMS casualty by the students, but, doctors pronounced him brought dead.
On receiving information of the death, OC Lamphel arrived at RIMS casualty. Moreover, IG (zone-1) Manipur Police K Jayenta and SP Imphal West Meghachandra also rushed to RIMS for inspection. They also investigated the room where he was found dead.
