Authority’s deaf ear to the 28 days of impasse at Manipur University demanding removal of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Adiya Prasad Pandey has brought the situation worsen with students’ body likely to organise a state wide protest in the next couple of days.
Members of Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU), Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs’ Association (MUSA) today staged a mass sit-in protest in front of the Manipur University gate.
“Dictatorial attitude of the VC Prof. Adiya Pandey Prasad disrespecting the teachers’ community cannot be tolerated at any cost” Spokesperson of MUTA Prof. Nongkham Nimai, HOD Physics Department said while talking to media persons.
He said that the students’ body has been levelling serious allegation about the irregularities of the VC and has been demanding his resignation. The MTA at first requested the VC to find an amicable solution so that the academic atmosphere resumed to normalcy but instead of listening to the MUTA the VC showed high handedness without bothering the request of the teachers’ community.
“The dictatorial attitude of the VC prompted us and the staffs to go along with the students’ body”, Nimai said.
The spokesperson said that the MUTA and the MUSA now joined the MUSU’s demands for removal of the VC but as he have relatives among the BJP authority and is lobbying the center to remain in the University and even the state government cannot act anything due to his political party.
“People might ask about the career of the students, but now the present condition reached in such a situation that it is better save the community by sacrificing the career for one year. And moreover if the center his serious about the career of the students then they should act by removing the VC and appoint an interim in-charge VC to resume the academic atmosphere until a new VC has been appointed.
President of MUSU Dayaman while speaking to media persons that the concern government authority have already know that the career of the students is at stake due to the ongoing agitation and if they are serious they should solve the matter in the earliest possible time.
“We will never retreat our demand and will continue our agitation until the demands are fulfilled”, Dayaman said.
On the other hand Dayaman said that the students’ body had never given any pressure to the deans for the resignation and the teachers too had clarified over the matter.
Dayanam further said that none of the clarification made by the VC is satisfactory and now the MUSU will go with various clubs and organisations of the state to intensify the agitation.
