Various Muslim civil bodies launched indefinite general strike over Lukaman’s death after the government fails to fulfill the demands of JAC against the killing of Lukaman and other Muslim organizations.
Earlier, on 21st March, various Muslim civil bodies namely United Manipur Muslim Development Organisation, Anjuman Islahemuaashrah, All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organisation, Pangal Students’ Organisation and Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation organized a public meeting at Moijing Edigah. The meeting strongly condemned the response of the government and Heingang Police Station over the killing of Lukaman.
The resolution of the meeting demanded to produce the culprit of the incident till the midnight of 21st March and announced for indefinite statewide general strike from 6am of the next day if the government fails to fulfill their demands. Other resolutions of the meeting include boycott of Chief Minister, non-acceptance of ex-gratia, judicial inquiry of the incident, seeking support of other civil society organizations till the culprit is produced. The speakers also appealed not to treat the minority community in a different manner.
The indefinite general strike largely affected most of the Muslim inhabited areas like Mayang Imphal Bengun, Lilong, Kshetrigao, Hapta, Arapti, Sora, Khabeishoi etc. Vehicular movement was thin in Imphal Moreh Route due the general strike. In Bashikhong area some bandh supporter damaged vehicles of travelers.
It may be mentioned that Md. Lukaman, 27 of Thoubal Moijing was found dead at Ahallup area on the 17th of March, 2015.
