Imphal, Sept 29:

Authority of the Manipur University had served a show cause notice to Dr. N. Sanatomba Singh, who is currently serving as an Assistant professor in the Manipuri Department of Manipur University to explain in writing regarding his speech that criticized Manipur government for the legalization of liquor, tourism, and other sensitive issues, while commenting on a debating competition organized by the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) on September 25, 2022, at the Conference hall of Manipur Institute of Management Studies.
The speech which Dr. Sanatomba delivered criticizing the lifting of the Liquor Prohibition Act went viral on social media. The MU authority felt such speech on the mass public platform has tarnished the image of the University which prima facie appears to be highly derogatory and defamatory.
As for the show cause notice Dr. Sanatomba has been ordered to explain in writing regarding his speech as the MU felt that he has violated the rules under Central Civil Service (Conduct) Rule, 1964. The MU authority gives 7 (seven days) time for explanation starting from September 28 as to why disciplinary action as deemed should not be taken against him.
