MSCW and SANULAL condemn heinous killing of Angom Ningol Asem Ongbi Rita

The Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Angom Ningol Asem Ongbi Rita, aged 67, who was found dead on the second floor of her residence on October 13, 2025, in the Yaiskul Chingakham area. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community, creating fear and trauma among residents.
Describing the crime as heinous and barbaric, MSCW called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrator is swiftly brought to justice. Chairperson Th. Tiningpham Monsang appealed to women across the state to remain vigilant against crimes targeting women and to actively support initiatives that promote awareness, prevention, and intervention. The Commission emphasized that violence of this nature has no place in society and urged all citizens to condemn the atrocity.
The incident has also drawn a strong response from the Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup (SANULAL), which described Dr. Rita as a respected member of their organization. Talking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today morning Ibethoi Leima President of SANULAL expressed its deepest condolences and criticized the local administration for failing to provide adequate security despite recent reports of rising criminal activities in the area, including gang clashes, drug trafficking, and armed individuals roaming the streets over the past three to four days prior to the incident.
Ibethoi Leima highlighted that the killing occurred near Imphal West Police Station, and while CCTV footage captured some events, the organization feels that the Police Department has not acted effectively to curb such violence. They also expressed concern that the implementation of President’s Rule on October 7 has not yet brought the expected reduction in criminal activity.
The organization urged the government to take strict action against criminal elements, emphasizing the urgent need to ensure the safety of women and the general public in the state. SANULAL concluded with a call for justice for Dr. Rita, appealing to society to work collectively to combat violence against women and protect vulnerable members of the community.
