The Manipur People’s Party (MPP) observed Patriots’ Day at Emoinu Sanglen, Lamboikhongnangkhong, today, with the participation of prominent civil society leaders and intellectuals.
Speaking at the event, MPP President S. Brojen noted that in these critical times for Manipur, only a few individuals are steadfastly standing for the land. He expressed hope that a dedicated and courageous leader would soon emerge to guide the people and stressed that the present moment is ripe for a strong regional political force to rise and articulate the true sentiments of the populace.
The commemorative programme featured a presidium comprising retired Manipur University Professor of History Dr. N. Joykumar, retired Professor of Anthropology W. Nabakumar, COCOMI Convenor Khuraijam Athouba, CCSK President Jeetendra Ningomba, HERICOUN President Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman, and former UCM President Sunil Karam.
As a symbolic tribute, three candles were lit before portraits of three prominent patriots.
In his address, Brojen underscored that the ongoing crisis in Manipur has exposed the inability of national parties to address the state’s unique challenges. He urged the public to rally behind regional parties that genuinely reflect the voice and aspirations of the people. Calling on the youth to emulate the bravery of the forefathers who sacrificed their lives for the land, he appealed to them to become the change-makers the state urgently needs.
