MPCC urges for MLAs holding post of office of profit; submits representation to Manipur Governor

Imphal, Oct 25: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today submitted a representation to the Governor of Manipur Dr. Nazma Heptulla drawing her attention for disqualification of MLAs holding office of profit as Parliamentary Secretary.
Talking to media persons today at Congress Bhavan, BT road, President of MPCC TN Haokip said that under the article 192 of the constitution of India the Governor of Manipur is competent to disqualify the Parliamentary secretaries who are holding the post of the office of profit.
He further said that the supreme court of India in its ruling of July 26, 2017 has stated that appointment of the Parliamentary secretary is unconstitutional. He said following the order 7 Parliamentary Secretary of Mizoram government were pulled out and ordered for return of those financial benefits enjoyed by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Secretary who had appointed them.  Following this, 7 Parliamentary Secretary too had resigned on their owned accord however, five are still holding the office of profit, Haokip said.
He said that AICC President Sonia Gandhi and MP of UP Jaya Bachan too resigned and come back in fresh mandate for holding the office of profit in 2004.
The MPCC president questions on whether the 12 parliamentary secretary will remain as it is or they will be disqualified under the article 192 of the Constitution of India.
The representation urging the governor to disqualify the parliamentary secretaries was submitted at around 12.30 pm today.
On the other hand the death anniversary of Late Indira Gandhi which falls on October 31 will be observed by the state Congress and an year long observance of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi will be launched from November 19.
