Congress Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has questioned the delay in the inquiry into the Manipur violence, alleging that a government-appointed inquiry commission has continued its proceedings despite an initial six-month deadline.
Speaking at the ‘Manipur Way Ahead’ session of The Conclave 2026, Akoijam said the prolonged inquiry raised questions over accountability and the government’s handling of the situation.
He questioned who was preventing the Government of India from taking steps to bring the situation under control, and asked whether the government could avoid responsibility while violence remained a concern and the inquiry commission continued extending its proceedings.
Akoijam said his criticism was not directed at any particular political party but at what he described as a lack of accountability in dealing with issues concerning Manipur.
The Congress MP also raised the issue of alleged illegal collection of money along highways in Manipur, which he said he had taken up in Parliament. He claimed the concerned ministry was required to respond within 30 days but had not responded even after the stipulated period. He said he had also written to the Speaker regarding the matter.
Akoijam further criticised what he described as inadequate disclosure of information concerning Manipur and the Northeast, arguing that the region’s problems could not be addressed merely through decisions taken from Delhi.
