MP A Sharda Devi lays Foundation Stone for Nupi Laan Memorial at Jaribond in Assam

Rajya Sabha MP from Manipur Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi today laid the foundation stone for a Nupi Laan memorial at Jaribond in Hailakandi district of Assam.

The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by Dr. Milon Das, MLA of the 121-Hailakandi Assembly Constituency, along with local residents and other dignitaries.

Speaking to the media, Sharda Devi said the proposed memorial would commemorate the historic Nupi Laan, or Women’s War, which occupies an important place in the history of Manipur and stands as a testament to the courage and sacrifices of Manipuri women.

She said Manipuri people have settled in different parts of the country while remaining connected through a shared heritage and a common “bonding of blood”. The proposed memorial, she added, would symbolise the historical and cultural ties shared by Manipuris across geographical boundaries and serve as a tribute to the women who played a defining role in Nupi Laan.

Sharda Devi expressed gratitude to Hailakandi MLA Dr. Milon Das for his support for the initiative and thanked retired Colonel B.B. Sinha for donating the land for construction of the memorial.
