MOU signed between State govt. and Shija hospitals

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked among the State Government, M/S Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Private Limited and Manipur Pollution Control Board for the development of a Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility and a Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility at Lamdeng in Imphal West District.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today. The State Government was represented by Additional Chief Secretary (Forest and Environment) M.H. Khan, Shija Hospitals Pvt. Ltd. was represented by its Managing Director Dr. Kh. Palin and Manipur Pollution Control Board by its Member Secretary T. Mangi.

The facilities will be set up under the provisions of the Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 (as amended) and the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016 (as amended) respectively.

For setting up of the facilities, the State Government will bear 25 percent of the total project cost and M/S Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Private Limited as project proponent will bear 25 percent of the project cost against the budget of project sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of India as per the terms and conditions of the Ministry.

M/S Shija Hospitals and Research Institute Private Limited will be solely responsible for the operation and maintenance of the two facilities. The operation and maintenance of the facilities will be closely monitored by the Manipur Pollution Control Board for compliance of the provisions of the Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016 (as amended) and the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016 (as amended).
