Mother recounts night of horror in Tronglaobi blast

In a heart-rending account of the deadly blast at Moirang Tronglaobi, Oinam Binita, mother of the two minor children killed in the attack, recalled the final moments before tragedy struck, describing a night that shattered her family forever.
Recounting the incident, Binita said the explosion occurred around 1:30 am on April 7 while the children were fast asleep in her arms. “They knew nothing and slept peacefully,” she said, her voice marked by grief, adding that the loss was beyond repair. She further shared that her younger child stopped responding during the incident, exhausted and unresponsive amid the chaos.
Her husband, a serving personnel of the Border Security Force, was away on duty at the time. Binita said the family had placed its trust in the security presence in the area. “We slept believing that his fellow security forces would protect us,” she said.
The incident took place in Moirang Tronglaobi, a locality that has witnessed rising tensions in recent weeks amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur. The killing of the two children has heightened concerns over civilian safety, particularly in vulnerable areas.
The tragedy has triggered anger among local residents, who have alleged serious lapses in security and called for accountability. Binita described her children as “martyrs” and said she would continue her fight for justice until those responsible are held accountable.
