Mother, daughter killed in road accident

Imphal, June 24 : A mother and a daughter were killed following a major road mishap at Nongren village in Sawombung of Imphal East under Lamlai Police Station early on Saturday. Kh Bijyanti Devi, 30, and her daughter, 3, from Nongren Mayai Leikai who were travelling on an Activa scooter with her husband died on the spot after a speeding truck hit their vehicle, sources from the spot said. The accident happened at 7.45 this morning. Enraged by the fatal incident, a large number of villagers gathered at the spot and enforced a road blockade in protest. Police said the vehicle with registration number MN-07C 3588 along with the driver has been taken into their custody. A case has also been registered regarding the accident. Sources informed that Bijyanti and her daughter were supposed to visit her parental home at Potshangbam village when ‘the tragic accident happened.
