Members of the Moreh Consumer Club along with the volunteers of Socialist Student Union of Manipur (SSUM) today conducted drive against the use of Non-biodegradable Plastic bags which is imported from Myanmar.
AT around 7am today morning a team of Moreh Consumer Club , Socialist Student Union of Manipur along with the Deputy Superintendent of Police Moreh and also with Moreh Police department began the drive against the Non-biodegradable Plastic bags from Moreh Bazar to Indo-Myanmar Friendship Gate No. 1 and 2.
The team collected Non-biodegradable Plastic bags from different shops .The Plastic bags which are imported from Myanmar are banned by Autonomous District Council Chandel to prevent pollution in Moreh town as well as at other part of Manipur.
Importing of such plastic bags spread all over the Northeast from Myanmar became a major part in polluting the environment of entire Northeastern states of India. The President of Moreh Consumer Club and Advisor of Socialist Student Union of Manipur stated that this drive was not only to collect the banned plastic bags but also giving awareness programme to the public and traders of Moreh about the pollution occured from the said plastic bags. If the traders of Moreh begins to stop transporting the plastic bags from Moreh then moreh than 90% of pollution can be controlled in a very short period of time. DSP Moreh Thomas Thokchom , OC Moreh PS , OC Commando , President of MCC and Advisor of SSUM and some are volunteers took part in the drive as a measure to control pollution due to the uses of Non-biodegredable Plastic bags .
