Imphal, April 25: MODIfied Northeast India extends warm wishes to Mary Kom on becoming Rajya Sabha MP. We also thanked the present government at the Centre for considering Northeast Candidate out of 7 vacant seats in the Rajya Sabha on 22nd April 2016.
With Mary Kom as the latest MP from Manipur, the state have 4 MPs (2 in the Lok Sabha and 2 in the Rajya Sabha). MODIfied Northeast India strongly believes that issues of Manipur will be discussed and debated in the Parliament in the interest of the State and hope that the region will marched towards peace and development soon.
The Social Initiative request Mary Kom to put forward the pending demands of Manipuris for the last 15 years on repeal of AFSPA, the Indo Myanmar border issues, youth unrest, communal tensions and ethnic minority problems which are stumbling blocks. We are also afraid of the political mileage taken by a particular political party on the appointment of Mary Kom. We would like to clarify to the public that she was not appointed as a brand ambassador of one particular party or state, but recommended after considering her contributions and achievements in Sports. We request State leaders not to take undue advantage of her appointment as a political recommendations. MODIfied Northeast India would also request Mary Kom to promote Sports in the region using her power and networks to lead the Country at International Level.
