Mob storms Ukhrul Police Station, loots weapons

IT News
Imphal, Oct 3:

A mob stormed a police station in Ukhrul town and looted weapons amid a violent clash between two groups, officials reported on Thursday. The violence erupted on Wednesday when Hunphun Village Authority objected to a social work event organized by the Tangkhul Hunphun Youth and Students Organization (THYSO), sparking concerns of unrest. Ukhrul’s Superintendent of Police had raised alarms over the potential breach of public safety, citing the ongoing territorial dispute.
The attack on the police station occurred while the clash was ongoing. Prohibitory orders were issued, and mobile internet services were suspended in the town following the incident, which involved two groups from the Naga community.
“After violence broke out in Ukhrul town, a mob, mostly composed of youths, stormed the police station at Wino Bazar and made off with government-issued weapons,” an official stated. The exact number and types of weapons looted remain unconfirmed as investigations continue, it added.
