The Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF), a proscribed armed outfit, has condemned what it described as deliberate attempts to distort the historical facts of Manipur. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the group accused Kuki organisations of misleading the public through fabricated narratives, particularly in the aftermath of the ethnic violence that began on May 3, 2023.
The outfit alleged that certain Kuki groups were attempting to provoke tensions by accusing other communities, especially the Nagas, of false historical claims and territorial encroachments. MNPF criticised a recent statement by a group called “Young Kuki,” which claimed that Nagas migrated to the Kuki Hills after separating from the Meeteis. The group termed this assertion provocative and historically baseless.
MNPF further claimed that some Kuki intellectuals were inciting their youth with distorted information, warning that such efforts could escalate unrest and destabilise the region. It reaffirmed that the Meetei and Naga communities are the indigenous people of Manipur and called on all sections to respect the state’s true history.
The outfit urged for responsible discourse and warned against attempts to rewrite history for political or territorial gains, stating that such actions could deepen existing ethnic divides.
