MMC warns doctors to renew registration

The Manipur Medical Council (MMC) has directed all Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) in the state to renew their registration every five years, warning that the names of those who fail to do so within one year after the expiry of validity will be removed from the Council’s register.

In a notification issued by Registrar Dr. Sanasam Gopal Singh, the Council stated that despite repeated reminders, a large number of registered practitioners have not renewed their registrations for several years after their expiry.

To address the issue, the Council has announced a one-time relaxation, allowing defaulting practitioners to renew their registrations within one month from the date of the notification by paying the prescribed late fees and penalties.

The notification further stated that practitioners seeking renewal of registration must obtain at least 30 credit points or hours through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities during the preceding five-year period. These activities include participation in conferences, Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes, workshops, seminars and other recognised professional development programmes.

The Council said the measure is aimed at ensuring that medical practitioners remain professionally updated and continue to meet regulatory requirements for practising medicine in the state.
The notification serves as a final opportunity for practitioners with expired registrations to regularise their status before their names are struck off the official register maintained by the Manipur Medical Council.
