A new packaged drinking water unit named Pristine H2O was formally inaugurated today at Sneha Cottage, located near the Northern Gate of Manipur University, Imphal West. The inauguration ceremony began at 9:00 AM and witnessed the participation of several notable personalities and community leaders.
Thokchom Radheshyam Singh, MLA of Heirok Assembly Constituency and former Education Minister of Manipur, graced the event as Chief Guest. Laishram Mema Devi, Convenor of the Khwairambam Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee for Peace, attended as the Guest of Honour. Retired Chief Engineer of NHPC Loktak Project, Maibam Lalmani Singh, presided over the ceremony.
In his address, MLA Radheshyam highlighted the importance of clean drinking water and appreciated the initiative taken by Pristine H2O. He noted that more than 70% of health issues are caused by the consumption of contaminated water and stressed the role of such ventures in improving public health and safety.
Laishram Mema Devi emphasized that the availability of safe, non-toxic drinking water is especially vital for the displaced families living in relief camps across Manipur. She pointed out that the ongoing crisis has deeply affected women and children, and ensuring access to safe water is a critical need.
Maibam Lalmani Singh expressed concern over the rising pollution in water sources and lauded the efforts of the youth behind the project. He urged the community to support such local initiatives that not only provide essential services but also create employment opportunities.
The event was attended by local residents, women leaders, student representatives, and members of the press. Organisers also announced that the plant would focus on supplying drinking water to relief camps and underserved localities, reaffirming their commitment to public service.
