Manipur MLA L. Susindro Meitei has initiated steps to construct a mausoleum memorial park at Taungbo-Sedaw in Upper Chindwin District, Sagaing Region, Myanmar, the final resting place of revolutionary leader Lamyanba Hijam Irabot.
Following his commitment to the public, Susindro travelled to Myanmar to oversee the proposed project and advance the construction work. A six-member construction committee was formed at Hotel Mingalar in Mandalay to coordinate the initiative.
The committee is headed by Susindro as convenor, with Namin Ngangom of Tamwe, Yangon; Gopal Naorem and Gogaw Sagolshem of Thitsheint Kone, Taungbo-Sedaw, Sagaing Region; and Gourashyam Hajirika and Hilar Devi of 88/30 C, Mandalay, as members.
Speaking about the project in Mandalay, Susindro said he had travelled to fulfil his commitment to the people. He noted that the proposed memorial site was also believed to contain mineral deposits. However, prolonged neglect and water erosion had damaged the surrounding landscape, leaving little trace of the site’s former condition.
He said the land settlement process would be completed before developing the area into a garden and memorial space in keeping with its historical significance.
Susindro also proposed constructing a statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot at the site. The statue is expected to take around three months to complete. Following its completion, the memorial park would be developed, with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 15 lakh for the water-related infrastructure and associated work, according to the MLA.
The construction initiative was launched with the aim of completing the project at the earliest and dedicating it to the public.
During the visit, Susindro also offered prayers at the shrine of Ibudhou Pakhangba at Tadale in Amarapura Township, Mandalay Division, Myanmar.
Describing the shrine as an important religious and cultural site for the Meitei community, he assured Meitei residents in Mandalay that efforts would be made to renovate and improve the shrine in a manner befitting its significance.
Susindro also attended the 228th birth anniversary observance of Raj Sri Bhagyachandra, organised in Mandalay by the Rajshri Bhagyachandra Cultural Foundation, Manipur. As part of the programme, financial assistance amounting to one crore kyats had earlier been provided for the renovation of temples and mandaps in Myanmar that had suffered damage during an earthquake.
