Local MLA Khumukcham Joykishan today laid the foundation stone for a new elevator facility at the Manipur Press Club, a long-awaited addition aimed at improving accessibility for journalists and visitors alike.
Speaking at the brief ceremony, MLA Joykishan reiterated his continued support for the journalist community and recalled the role of the media in times of crisis. “I have always stood by journalists during difficult times, and this initiative is a small step towards making their working environment more accessible,” he said.
He informed that although the initial plan was to install a G3 type elevator, after technical consultations, a G4 model with a capacity of eight persons will now be installed, subject to final approval by the concerned technicians.
Appreciating the role of the media in promoting peace and stability, the MLA appealed to journalists across the state to continue their service with commitment and integrity. “The role of the press is more crucial than ever in restoring peace and harmony in Manipur,” he said.
On the current political scenario, Joykishan noted that he personally believes the central government is keen on restoring a popular government in the state. However, he refrained from making further comments, stating that clarity is expected to emerge during the upcoming session of Parliament.
President of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), A. Bhakta, expressed gratitude on behalf of the press community. “The installation of this lift will be a significant upgrade for the press club. It will not only benefit senior journalists but also make the premises more accessible for all visitors,” he said.
The event was attended by members of AMWJU, journalists, and well-wishers from across the media fraternity.
