Hiyanglam MLA Dr. Yumnam Radheshyam conducted an inspection visit at Hiyanglam Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar to assess its present condition and review progress of the newly constructed Hiyanglam Wabagai Ema Keithel.
Speaking to media persons during the visit, Dr. Yumnam Radheshyam stated that the foundation stone of the Hiyanglam Wabagai Ema Keithel was laid on February 9, 2019. He informed that efforts are underway to inaugurate the building towards the end of the current month and dedicate it to the public.
The MLA said that the initial project envisaged construction of only the ground floor of the Ema Keithel at an estimated cost of Rs. 4 crore. However, considering the large number of women vendors operating in the market, a proposal was submitted to the concerned authority. An additional allocation of Rs. 2 crore was subsequently sanctioned, enabling the construction of the first floor. The Ema Keithel will have a total of 320 stalls. In view of the high number of vendor women, he stated that arrangements would be made to accommodate all by rationalising the space allotted to each vendor.
He further stated that for those vendor women who may not be accommodated in the new building, steps would be taken to improve the existing temporary sheds so as to ease the difficulties faced by the Emas.
The inspection was attended by former Adakshya of Kakching Zilla Parishad Phuritsabam Jiten, Emas from Hiyanglam Wabagai Keithel vicinity, members of civil society organisations, Bazar Board members and others.
