Imphal, July 25: The ongoing drive by supporters of JCILPS along the national Highway at Sekmai area to check entry of illegal migrants has received mix response various people across the state. While some lauded the effort, many expressed apprehension about creating another misunderstanding among the different communities of the state.
Among those reacted, MLA N Biren at one of his post at social networking site Facebook ironically question the legality of civilian checking non-locals at passenger buses.
“Why are the state government machineries remain as silent spectators? Is it right for a civilian to check illegal migrant?”, the onetime Minister and spokesperson of the ruling congress government wrote at his facebook post.
N Biren also questioned the government if they are waiting for another clash among the people of the state as the kind of checking might provoke communal tone and may ignite another crisis of large scale.
The MLA further wrote that if the non-locals are being checked the way it is being done what would happened if the students of the state studying outside the state or people of the state working outside the state are being handled in the same way.
Instead of letting the civilian checking for the non-locals what is wrong in performing the same by state machineries as according to the law of the land, Biren wrote.
Another Manipuri residing at Delhi in a message to Imphal Times expressed serious concerned on the ongoing agitation by JCILPS at which the non-locals were pulled down from passenger buses at Sekmai.
“It is all right to check illegal migrant who do not possessed proper valid document or identification cards but why should the civilian be engaged for doing such work”, Rajesh wrote.
“After all what is the use of pulling them down as they were set free by the so called state machineries whom they had been handed over too, it is like keeping a cat to look after the fish”, he added.
