Minister’s PA kidnapped; Former CS’s residence attacked

Imphal, Sept 20:

In a troubling turn of events, the personal assistant of Manipur Minister L. Susindro was kidnapped by unknown assailants near his residence in Imphal East district at approximately 8:30 AM on Friday, according to police reports. The victim, identified as 43-year-old Sarangthem Somarendro, was abducted while leaving for his official duties. The motives behind the kidnapping and the identities of the perpetrators remain unclear.
Earlier, at around 8:30 PM on Thursday, unidentified armed miscreants opened fire at the residence of former chief secretary Oinam Nabakishore in Bishnupur district. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, but some property at the residence was damaged during the incident.
During a spot investigation, district police recovered around five empty shell casings, suspected to be 9mm ammunition. So far, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Nabakishore’s residence. A case has been registered at the Bishnupur police station, and investigations are currently underway, police confirmed.
Authorities are working to establish connections between the two incidents and ensure the safety of individuals targeted in the ongoing security challenges in the region.
