Minister, MLA and scribes kicks start Agar Plantation

Forest and Environment minister Th Shyamkumar and MLA Sapam Ranjan along with the editors of various newspaper and electronic media in the state today kick start Agar plantation at the newly established Green Park at Mangra Ching in the adjoining area of Imphal West and Kangpokpi district.

The dream park is being designed and established with the help of the state government authority under the initiative of the Editors’ Guild Manipur in hands with the Socio Economic Development Society (SEEDS) with assistance from the Directorate of Environment of the government of Manipur.

The barren like hilltop is likely to be a gold mine in the near future if the Agar sapling planted today grows in the near future , opines a villagers who has been dreaming of developing the area for quite long .

“I am now nearing 60, and all I have been dreaming is making the Mangra hill a hill of wealth and I am happy that you editors and Minister of Forest and Environment and MLA Dr. Sapam Ranjan personally came and planted Agar sapling’ , the villager of the nearby area told this journalist.

Speaking to media persons, Forest and environment minister Th. Shyamkumar said that the state government has been taking up the initiative of replacing the Marijuana and Poppy plantation by Agar plantation since the last few months and any places which is suitable for plantation of Agar plant will be replaced by it.

The Forest and Environment Minister also stated that any barren hilltop or hill slopes will be planted with the Agar plants and this is not for the earning income but also for solving the environment of the state. First plantation of  Agar sapling was started at Langol Hillock , the forest Minister Th. Shyamkumar added.

The Minister appreciated the SEEDS and the EGM for the initiative taken up for plantation of Agar tree in the adjoining area of the Imphal West and Kangpokpi Area.

MLA Dr. Ranjan Sapam while speaking to reporters on the occasion said that after signing an agreement with the government of Laos, the Government of Manipur have started plantations of Agar plant at various places of the state which is suited with the plant. He added that the plantation will also save the deteriorating climate condition of the state.
