A middle age woman was killed after she was hit by a bullet shot by miscreant at Kwakeithel Mayaikoibi area today morning amidst heavy security deployment.
The place of the incident is close to Ningthemkol area earlier known as Paite Veng under Lamphel Police station in Imphal West. As per a classified government document available with the Imphal Times, the government has deployed one company of Central Armed Police Forces, One column of Assam Rifles and Army in addition to the state police. Close to the place of the incident also lies a Police outpost (Kwakeithel Police outpost). However, no security personnel were seen at the time of the incident in the area.
As per report, the victim woman came in a passenger auto vehicle from Changangei side towards Khwairamband Keithel. She was reportedly called down from the vehicle by some people before reaching Kwaikeithel Bazaar at around 8 am today morning. Later, people from many sides thronged and started accusing her of creating terror in the area. The woman was allegedly taken towards Mayaikoibi side passing the road leading to Sishu Nistha Niketan. Some club members and Meira Paibis of the Kwakeithel area tried to calm the mob and were trying to call the police for the protection of the woman. However, an unknown person pulls out a small gun and shoots her twice. The woman died on the spot.
The report added that the person came in a four-wheeler vehicle. The identity of the deceased woman is yet to be established.
