In a proactive initiative, the Manipur Human Rights Commission orchestrated a thought-provoking debate competition today at the Old Multipurpose Hall of Maharaja Bodhachandra College in Imphal. The event, organized in conjunction with International Human Rights Week, centered around the critical theme, “Protection of Human Rights Depends on Rule of Law in times of Communal Disharmony.” The debate competition was attended by students from Class IX to XII.
Distinguished figures in the realm of human rights and legal expertise graced the occasion, with Justice U B Saha, Chairperson of the Manipur Human Rights Commission, and Kangjam Khagendra Singh, Member of the Commission, taking the roles of chief guest and president, respectively. The event also welcomed Nungshitombi Athokpam, Commissioner(Law), and Yumnam Nirmolchand Singh, Sr. Advocate and President of the High Court Bar Association of Manipur, as esteemed guests of honor.
The gathering not only provided a platform for intellectual discourse but also demonstrated a collective commitment to fostering awareness about the pivotal role of the rule of law in safeguarding human rights, particularly during periods of communal disharmony.
The engagement of legal luminaries and human rights advocates further underscored the significance of addressing these issues within the broader framework of the international human rights agenda.
