Imphal, Dec 11: Meiteis inhabiting at various part of Cachar district in Assam wanted the Manipur government to have extra attention to the condition of the Imphal Jiri road.
Talking to the group of reporters from Thoubal and Kakching district who are on tour at Meitei inhabited areas of Assam, Somor Luwang, a social worker from Rongpur Village in Silchar said that if the state government have a will than the Imphal Jiribam road could have been much better than the Guwahati-Shilchar road stretch.
“The way the state government is having interest at Imphal-Dimapur road, the state government should also have interest to the Imphal Jiribam road”, Somor Luwang said.
Mentioned may be made that under the India’s Act East Policy the government of India is constructing the Trans-Asia highway which will be an important route to connect with the ASEAN countries. The Trans Asian High way is projected along the Imphal-Jiribam road and construction from Guwahati till Silchar has been completed. If the portion of the Imphal-Jiribam road could not be converted into four lane than there is a possibility that the Trans Asian Highway be shifted along the Imphal Dimapur Highway as conversion of four lane from Dimapur till Kohima has been almost completed.
