Meitei Leepun condemns killing of Rakesh, calls for collective efforts to restore peace

Meitei Leepun, Thoubal district, has strongly condemned the killing of Laisram Rakesh of Khangabok Part-II, allegedly shot dead by unidentified persons amid the continuing violence in the state. The organisation has called for collective efforts by civil society organisations, community leaders and law enforcement agencies to restore peace and prevent further violence.

In a press release, P. Lenin Meitei, convenor of Meitei Leepun, Thoubal district, said the people of Manipur had continued to suffer from the violence that erupted on May 3, 2023. He highlighted the hardships faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs), many of whom continue to live in relief camps, separated from their homes and livelihoods.

The organisation also expressed concern over the violence reported between Khangabok and Sangaiyumpham on October 18, 2026, which reportedly involved clashes, loss of lives and damage to houses. It condemned the killing of Laisram Rakesh and called for appropriate action to ensure justice for the victim.

The release appealed to the people to maintain unity and refrain from actions that could aggravate the prevailing situation.

Meitei Leepun further called upon the police and other law enforcement agencies to extend full cooperation in efforts to prevent violence and restore normalcy in the state.
