Imphal, April 24: A block level consultation programme to discuss the incidents of child trafficking and child sexual abuse in Chandel district was organised at the community hall of Machi village in Tegnoupal district yesterday. The programme was jointly organised by Child Welfare Committee, Chandel in association with Machi Village Authority under the aegis of NEEDS, Child Rights and You, and Action for Change- Manipur (Reach-M).
Member secretary of CWC, Chandel Wanlalkhup Aimol presented his views on the reasons behind the organization of the programme. Later, member of Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights Khundrakpam Rajlakshmi spoke on the Juvenile Justice Act. Chairperson of CWC, Imphal West Thiyam Rajkishwor Singh and Md Yakub Ali, the 2nd officer-in-charge of Machi police station, spoke on the topics Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act and Role of Special Juvenile Police Unit respectively. These were followed by presentation of feedbacks of the programme by member of CWC, Chandel Roundar Paul and a question and answer session.
The programme was attended by village elders, women, youth and church leaders, representatives of civil society organisations and around 70 villagers.
