MEELAL, AMWJU resolve to strengthen use of Meetei Mayek in newspapers

A joint meeting of the Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillolapunba Lup and the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union was held at the Manipur Press Club yesterday to deliberate on the promotion of Manipuri language and script in the state’s media.
The meeting discussed the current linguistic scenario and the need to further strengthen the use of Meetei Mayek in newspapers published in Manipur. After detailed deliberations, the participants resolved that newspapers should include a portion in Meetei Mayek on a daily basis.
It was also resolved that concerted efforts would be made to further develop Manipuri language newspapers and that the existing Meetei Mayek sections should not be reduced but instead continued and strengthened. The meeting further agreed to hold periodic consultations to review progress and advance the development of the script.
Among those present were Khwairakpam Naoba, General Secretary of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union; Soibam Arun, Secretary (Publicity), MEELAL; Paonam Thakaba Meetei, General Secretary, MEELAL; Irengbam Arun, Advisor, AMWJU; Shadokpam Tomba Mangang, Advisor, MEELAL; Maibam Indrajit, Secretary (Education), MEELAL; Singamayum Chaoba, Joint Secretary (Publicity), MEELAL; and representatives from local media houses including Poknapham, Paojel and Kanglapao.
