A media consultation on ‘Violations of Mapithel Dam’ was organized today by Mapithel Dam Affected Villagers Organisation, Citizen’s Concern for DAMS and Development and the Centre for Research and Advocacy at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
The consultation has resorted that the Irrigation and Flood Control Development (IFCD) of Government of Manipur should stop blocking the Thoubal river and filling up of Mapithel Dam reservoir, the government of Manipur should stop the Mapithel dam construction till the environmental and social impacts are fully addressed, the government of Manipur should stop all militarization process in Mapithel dam areas and in all affected villages for forceful completion of Mapithel dam as this constitute a clear human rights violations of indigenous people, the government of Manipur should resume the expert review committee which was formed in 2008, to stop all forms of involuntary displacement of indigenous people.
