Thoubal, March 26: In connection with the one month Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign, District Family Welfare Office and District Health Society Thoubal Organise the Measles-Rubella campaign for Thoubal district was launched by Thoubal Deputy Commissioner, Rosita Haobam at KM.Blooming Higher Secondary School, Khangabok in Thoubal District today.
DC, Thoubal, Rosita Haobam, CMO/ Mission Director DHS Thoubal Dr. N.Jayantakumar, District Family Welfare Officer Dr.N.Akendra and Chairman of KM.Blooming Higher Secondary School Kh.Menjor Mamang attended the ceremony as dignitaries.
The launching event was followed by an awareness rally around Khangabok and locals participated.The rally was wrapped up at the KM. Blooming School. Slogans on importance of vaccination to prevent the diseases were shouted.
DC Thoubal Rosita Haobam appealed all the parents to support the movement in eliminating Measles and Rubella. Children from the age of 9 months to 15 years would be given free Measles and Rubella vaccination.The vaccination will be carried out at every school in the district and children who had vaccinated for measles earlier should be revaccinated within a one month time.
According to DPM, the vaccination target to Cover for Thoubal District 11,5649 children in the age brackets of nine months to 15 years by March.
He said in all ANMs, health supervisors and ASHA and anganwadi workers have been pressed into service, Required vaccines have been stored at 17 PHCs and CHCs other sub-divisional hospitals, CHCs and PHCs.
Measles and Rubella, two viral diseases with common symptoms, are major causes of morbidity and mortality in children with the WHO reporting 64,000 deaths annually in India, claimed a vaccination officer.
