Rebel group, the Maoist Communist Party, Manipur (MCPM) today recalled the sacrificial spirit of Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) volunteers in fighting the social evil and state terrorism in the region. In a press statement issued by its Secretary Publicity and Propaganda, the outfit details the history of the youth organisation and the hardship faced by the volunteers of the organisation. It said 5 volunteers of the youth organisation identified as Vicky Yambem (the then Secretary Organisation, MAFYF) Moirangthem Ranjan (the then Secretary of Imphal West, MAFYF), Khaidem Sanjoy (the then President of Lilong Pana, MAFY), Thangjam Ibotombi (the then leader of MAFYF Khurai Pana) and Lalit @ Naoba Oinam (the then leader of Uripok Pana MAFYF) self-immolated in front of Chief Minister’s office on July 24, 2004 joining the series of protest for repeal of draconian act Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) sparked in the state following the rape and murder of Thangjam Monorama Chanu by Indian Security forces.
The dead body of the lady was found brutally murder by pumping several bullets into her body on July 11 of 2004 from a place at Ngariyan Hill Range in Imphal East district. The lady was picked up by a team of 17 AR from her residence at Bamon Kampu. The day at which the MAFYF volunteers’ self- immolated is being remembered as “Khunaigi Kathopkpa Numit” by the Maoist Communist Party Manipur.
