MCPCR summons school principal, teacher over viral corporal punishment case

In a strong intervention against child abuse in schools, the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has summoned the Principal of Catholic School, Canchipur, and a teacher accused of inflicting corporal punishment on a pre-primary student.
The incident sparked outrage after a video clip of the punishment went viral on social media, drawing widespread condemnation over the safety of young children in educational institutions.
Acting suo motu, the MCPCR has directed both the Principal and the teacher to appear before the Commission at its office on the 3rd floor of the Directorate of Social Welfare building on October 9 at 1:00 PM. They have been instructed to present their statements and submit a detailed explanation regarding the incident.
The Commission reaffirmed that it will not tolerate violations of child rights, stressing that schools must provide a safe and nurturing environment, free from fear and abuse.
