MCPCR condemns violence against children, calls for urgent action

The Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) has expressed deep concern over recent incidents of violence involving children in the state and has called for immediate intervention by the authorities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commission referred to the reported rape and murder of an eight-year-old internally displaced girl from Moreh. The child had allegedly gone missing from a relief camp in Imphal East district on the night of April 5, and her body was recovered the following day from beneath the Singjamei bridge.
The Commission also cited the killing of two minor siblings—a four-month-old infant girl and her five-year-old brother—in an attack at Tronglaobi in Bishnupur district in the early hours of April 7. Their mother sustained critical injuries in the incident.
It further noted reports of violence near a security forces post in the Tronglaobi Maning area, where three civilians were killed and several others injured during unrest following the incident.
The MCPCR stated that these incidents indicate a serious escalation in violence, with children and women increasingly affected. It observed that such acts amount to grave violations of child rights and human rights guaranteed under the Constitution and relevant laws.
