The Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has strongly rejected the report published by the People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), Delhi, on the ongoing ethnic conflict in Manipur. The Council stated that the report, released under the title The Report of the Independent People’s Tribunal on the Ongoing Ethnic Conflict in Manipur, was one-sided, misleading, and failed to reflect the realities on the ground.
According to MCM, the report unjustly portrayed the Meetei community in a negative light while ignoring atrocities committed against them. It accused PUCL of presenting a biased narrative that favored certain organizations and communities while deliberately excluding the voices of the Meetei victims. The Council alleged that the report attempted to justify the violence of armed groups against civilians.
The Meetei Council further pointed out that the conflict in Manipur was not communal in nature but a result of organized and armed aggression against the Meetei people. It highlighted that the PUCL report overlooked the destruction of lives and properties of Meeteis while selectively presenting information to the public.
The Council also expressed disappointment that PUCL failed to consider the broader national interest and security implications of the ongoing violence. It urged the Union Government and concerned authorities not to accept the findings of the report, stressing that the report was politically motivated and detrimental to peace-building efforts.
MCM reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the interests of the Meetei community and called upon PUCL to take responsibility for the harm caused by its biased publication.
