MAYOL calls for political change through clean voting

The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL), under its “Vote for National Regeneration Campaign,” today appealed to both the public and aspiring candidates to refrain from election-related malpractices and corruption, including distribution and demand of cash and kind, organising grand feasts, pasting election posters at voters’ houses, and donating money or materials in the name of festivals.
In a statement issued by MAYOL Publicity Secretary Konjengbam Samananda, the organisation said it has been continuously carrying out the campaign for political change in various Assembly constituencies since launching the “Vote for National Regeneration Campaign” in connection with the 13th Manipur State Assembly Election at the auditorium of Manipur University on January 13.
The statement alleged that after the merger of Manipur into the Indian Union on October 15, 1949, the political status and governance system of the state witnessed a steady decline. It further stated that people and politicians have increasingly become dependent, affecting the ability of the people to take independent political decisions for the state.
MAYOL said the campaign aims to encourage people to take their own political decisions and determine their future collectively. The organisation also appealed to the public to extend support to the campaign in the coming days.
