The Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) has launched a political awareness campaign across the State, urging students to promote responsible political participation and ensure a clean, fair and transparent electoral process in the upcoming Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) election.
MAYOL said that merely entering politics or searching for “good people” would not be sufficient to bring meaningful change. The organisation stated that it has been working at the grassroots level across Manipur since the 2024 Parliamentary election to promote political awareness among the people.
According to MAYOL, the MUSU election for the 2026–2027 session is scheduled to be held on September 28. It appealed to students and the public to work collectively to ensure the election of capable, honest and dedicated student leaders.
The organisation stated that students of Manipur University are future citizens and leaders of the State and have an important role in shaping its future. It noted that students are pursuing their education at a time when Manipur continues to face various challenges, including corruption and other forms of malpractice.
MAYOL stressed that Manipur University, as an important centre of higher education, should have a fair and transparent electoral process. It urged students to elect representatives who are capable, sincere and committed to the welfare of the student community and the State.
The organisation also appealed to students to develop political awareness, adopt appropriate strategies and engage in constructive activities to strengthen the university community and promote integrity and accountability.
MAYOL urged candidates, students and their supporters to maintain discipline and uphold the dignity of the election. It appealed to candidates not to distribute money, gifts, food or other inducements to secure votes and urged students not to accept such benefits.
It also called upon candidates to avoid indiscriminate poster pasting, damage to university property, excessive distribution of campaign materials and activities that could cause disturbances on campus.
MAYOL further appealed against large-scale gatherings organised solely for electoral purposes and urged all concerned not to promote or distribute intoxicating substances during the campaign.
The organisation called upon the university community and all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring a clean, fair and transparent MUSU election and the election of capable, honest and committed student representatives.
