Mark Thangmang Haokip remanded to judicial custody in fresh case

Imphal, Apr 17:

Mark Thangmang Haokip, who claims to be the president of the so-called “Government of People’s Democratic Republic of Kukiland,” has been remanded to judicial custody in connection with a separate case, shortly after being granted bail by the Special Judge, NIA, Imphal West.
The latest order came from the Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal West, following fresh legal proceedings initiated against Haokip.
It may be recalled that Haokip was apprehended from a residence at Kishangarh in New Delhi on May 24, 2022. He faces serious charges including criminal conspiracy to secede from the Indian Union and promoting enmity through the use of social media platforms.
Despite having secured bail in one case with stringent conditions — including a PR bond of Rs 3 lakh and two sureties of like amount — Haokip was taken back into custody on grounds of another ongoing investigation.
The prosecution has alleged that Haokip and his associates used online platforms, including the website www.kukigovt.com, to disseminate provocative content intended to incite unrest and communal discord.
The court has imposed strict conditions on his bail, barring him from influencing witnesses, leaving Manipur without prior court approval, or engaging in any activities prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of the country.
