Imphal, Dec 2:

Many Civil Society Organizations, including the Federation of Civil Societies (FOCS), Forum For Restoration of Peace, and COCOMI, among others, condemned the attack on civilians in Lilong Chingjao yesterday evening, especially during this severe crisis in Manipur.
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in response to the attack and killing of civilians welcomes Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s assurance to punish those involved in the incident. However, the JAC urges the CM to arrest all the culprits within 48 hours and hand over the case to the National Investigative Agency (NIA). During a meeting held today in Lilong Chingjao, the JAC against Mass Killing and Brutal Acts adopted a resolution stating that any organization or armed group wishing to take action against anti-social elements must inform the local clubs or MLAs of the respective areas.
Meanwhile, the Meitei Alliance media spokesperson expressed shock over the incident in Waithou Chingjao. A statement from the Alliance said, “Regardless of the parties involved in this unfortunate incident and the circumstances leading to it, Meitei Alliance does not condone the unlawful action or organized violence that caused deaths, injuries, and suffering.” The statement also expressed deep condolences to the families who lost loved ones and prayed for their strength to face future challenges and for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Meitei Alliance is deeply concerned about the activities of those who either ignorantly or deliberately attempt to misrepresent the incident as a communal clash.
Leaders from both the Meitei and Meitei Pangal communities have refuted such claims. In this volatile situation, the Meitei Alliance appreciates the urgent actions taken by the Government of Manipur and responsible mass organizations to control frenzied sentiments, unlawful assemblies or mob actions, misinformation, and hate campaigns.
The Meitei Alliance stands with all respected organizations and individuals in Manipur in their collective efforts to maintain law and order, communal harmony, and unity among the people.
