Manipur’s future at risk if youth stay away from politics- MAYOL

Manipur will continue to suffer in the coming years if the youth fail to actively participate in politics and work towards bringing positive change, Manipur Youth League (MAYOL) president Suresh Koijam said today.

Speaking at a one-day interaction programme on “Politics: Vote for National Regeneration”, jointly organised by MAYOL and the Modern College Students’ Union at the college’s multipurpose hall, Suresh Koijam said young people could no longer remain detached from politics when the future of the state was at stake.

He said the present situation in Manipur reflected the consequences of failing to address several important issues affecting society. According to Suresh Koijam, the decisions taken by elected representatives in a democracy directly influence the lives and future of the people.

Suresh Koijam said the situation Manipur was facing today was not much different from that of the past few years, raising concerns about what could happen if the present pattern of governance continued.

He said MAYOL was established with the objective of bringing positive change to society by encouraging young people to participate in politics and work collectively towards the state’s progress.

Emphasising the need for unity and collective action, Suresh Koijam said meaningful change could be achieved when people came together, discussed common concerns and worked towards a shared vision for Manipur.

He added that MAYOL had been organising interaction programmes at different places to exchange ideas with the public and encourage discussions on issues affecting society. The organisation would continue such initiatives in the future.

Suresh Koijam stressed that politics should be understood as a means of bringing happiness, development and progress to the people. He said this vision of positive political engagement and social transformation was the guiding principle behind MAYOL’s activities.

Modern College Department of Economics associate professor Ch. Rajen and social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram also attended the programme.
